LAKEPORT >> Dominick Cervantes scored one goal and assisted on another Tuesday as the Clear Lake Cardinals beat the Kelseyville Knights 2-0 in North Central League I boys soccer action at Lakeport.

The win, Clear Lake’s first in three games against Kelseyville this season, elevates the Cardinals (4-3-1 league, 9-4-3 overall) into a fourth-place tie with the Knights (4-3-1, 7-6-2) in the league standings.

Levi Ewing scored Clear Lake’s other goal, his league-leading 21st of the season. Bairo Carmona added an assist in the win.

Clear Lake did all of its scoring in the first half.

“I’m disappointed in my team’s effort today,” Kelseyville head coach Kc White said. “It was non-existent in the first half right from the beginning. Clear Lake was more aggressive, they wanted it more, and they deserved to win today. The second half was much better, but unfortunately the game started 40 minutes prior and we were not ready.”

While there weren’t many highlights for the Knights, the play of Nick Arredondo was one of them, according to White.

“I thought he played really well in a new position,” White said. “When I was looking for aggressiveness, Nick brought it, which was refreshing.”

Nolan Buffalo had nine saves and was the player of the game for Clear Lake, according to Clear Lake head coach Anthony Duncan.

Both teams return to action Thursday when Kelseyville hosts Fort Bragg at 6:15 p.m. and Clear Lake plays in Upper Lake at 4:30 p.m.

In other NCL I action Tuesday:

Lower Lake 4, Upper Lake 0

At Lower Lake, the Lower Lake Trojans (4-2-1, 6-3-3) moved into sole possession of third place in the NCL I standings with a shutout victory over the Upper Lake Cougars (0-7, 0-13).

Lower Lake scoring wasn’t reported.

Upper Lake keeper Alan Alvarado finished with 16 saves.

“Our keeper, Alan, had one of his best games tonight with some incredible saves,” Upper Lake head coach Fred Miller said.

Upper Lake hosts Clear Lake on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while Lower Lake travels to Willits for a 6:45 p.m. game with the Wolverines.
