MIDDLETOWN >> The Middletown Broncos are counting the days until they get into their new gym … the one with air conditioning.
No AC was to be found Monday night in the school’s old gym where the Broncos’ A and B teams beat Obsidian Middle School in a sweatfest.
“It was hot in our gym, and it seemed to slow everyone down a bit, but our girls maintained a positive attitude and played well together,” Middletown head coach Niki Emberson said.
Middletown won the A match 25-18, 25-18 despite missing 11 serves during the match. Lily Day led the Broncos (4-2) with six aces and four kills, and Stella Brand had nine service points with one ace and four assists. Remmi Harbison added two aces, two assists and two kills
The Broncos won the B match 25-10, 25-11 behind a big service night from Madison Lewis, who had 20 service points, 14 of them aces. She also had two kills. Aleah Kilstrom helped out with three aces and a kill, Lola Fults had two assists and an ace, and Abby Tribby contributed two kills.
“These young athletes continue to impress me,” Emberson said. “They are improving each week and really starting to establish a strong chemistry.”
Middletown is 6-0 in league.
Middletown’s teams are off until Oct. 14 when they host Upper Lake.
