Cougars return fumble 94 yards for touchdown in 14-6 loss to Eagles

CLOVERDALE >> The Northshore Cougars made a game of it before falling 14-6 to the Cloverdale Chargers in varsity youth football action Saturday at Cloverdale High School.
Emilio Cuevas scored on a 94-yard fumble return for Northshore’s only points.
While the game was dominated by defense, Northshore’s offense had a few bright spots. Erik Sperber II carried the ball five times for 67 yards while backfield mate Oscar Vasquez had six carries for 50 yards.
On defense, Mason Krohn blocked a field goal while Jake Thompson’s big hit set up the fumble that Cuevas returned for a touchdown.
“We played tough, made a couple of minor mistakes that led to big plays for Cloverdale, but we are a really tough group of boys that have no quit in them and I’m very proud of these young men,” Northshore head coach Erik Sperber said. “We had a late start this year with a lot of players, but we’re starting to settle in finally.”
Vasquez finished with five solo tackles and four assists, Erik Sperber II had four solo stops and six assists, including a tackle for loss, and Grayson Pena added three solo tackles and two assists, including a tackle for loss.
Northshore (0-3) travels to Lakeport on Saturday to play Westshore (2-1-1).
