Trojans open season with 27-14 non-league loss to visiting Lindhurst

LOWER LAKE >> Brody Shields passed for a pair of second-half touchdowns in an attempt to rally Lower Lake, but the Trojans fell 27-14 to Lindhurst in non-league varsity football action Friday night at Gordon Sadler Field.
Lower Lake (0-1) was making its season debut against a Lindhurst team playing its third game. The Blazers improved to 2-1.
“It was a tough game,” Lower Lake head coach Jay Jakubowski said. “Our offense took a while to wake up. You can’t win with a bunch of turnovers. We got a little frantic.”
Shields went 12-for-30 for 181 yards on the night, connecting with Percoats on a 39-yard touchdown and Jordan Rohrbacker on a 13-yard TD strike, but he also threw four interceptions. Lower Lake also had a promising drive stall on a lost fumble in the first half as the Lancers built a 21-0 lead.
“We moved the ball, but we kept turning it over,” Jakubowski said.
Percoats caught three passes for 98 yards while Rohrbacker had five receptions for 41 yards. Raijhier McKneely added three catches for 27 yards.
Lower Lake rushed for 54 yards, 32 of those by Anthony Russell.
On defense, Abraham Mora forced a fumble that he recovered to end one Lindhurst drive.
The Blazers took a 27-8 lead into the fourth quarter.
“We have to get better,” Jakubowski said. “I have to do a better job pairing these guys. We got the first-game jitters out of the way. Hopefully we can get back on track and be ready for Fort Bragg.”
Lower Lake hits the road next Friday to play Fort Bragg (1-2) in North Central League I interlock action. Junior varsity action kicks off at 5 p.m.
