Clear Lake blanks Upper Lake, Kelseyville handles Middletown

UPPER LAKE >> Three games, three wins and smooth sailing so far for the Clear Lake High School girls soccer team, a 5-0 winner over the Upper Lake Cougars in non-league action Tuesday at Upper Lake High School.
Clear Lake (3-0) has outscored the opposition by a combined 11-1 this season.
“We were able to play all of our players,” Clear Lake head coach Gustavo Carbajal said. “They did a great job.”
Clear Lake established a 3-0 lead in the first half on goals by Jeanette Luevano, Sellena Carbajal and Aleeyah Bondi. Carbajal scored again in the second half while Brooke Ewing had the other goal for the Cardinals.
Luevano assisted on Carbajal’s goal in the first half.
“I’m very proud of our team,” Carbajal said.
Clear Lake plays Lower Lake (2-1) on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the semifinals of the Tyler Duncan Memorial Tournament at Upper Lake High School.

Kelseyville 6, Middletown 0
At Middletown, Hiliana Rico scored Kelseyville’s first two goals and finished with a hat trick as the Knights (2-1) shut out the Middletown Mustangs (1-3).
Kylee Denham, Mikaela Rico and Jacky Chavez also scored for Kelseyville. Vanessa Reyes assisted on two of the Knights’ goals while Denham and Melanie Jimenez also had assists.
Kelseyville led 4-0 at halftime.
“The Mustangs had some good opportunities and some strong shots on goal,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said. “Grace Hobbs, our senior backup goalkeeper, stepped up tonight while our starting goalkeeper is injured and she did a great job protecting the goal.”
Added Rodriguez, “I have to give credit to the Middletown Mustangs. They made the Lady Knights work hard tonight and never gave up.”
Rodriguez said Kelseyville’s defense stepped up all game long, led by Dakota Burton, Brooke Poff, Ana Gutierrez Garcia and Lexxi Pantaleon. Kelseyville’s coach also was impressed with the midfield play of Ximena Herren and Genavieve Joaquin.
“All of our players did a great job tonight and I was proud that I was able to get every player into the game,” Rodriguez said.
Middletown head coach Cassi Clark cited the outstanding play of senior and first-year player Casi Padilla at center defender as well as the strong play of freshman Katera Gotz.
“We have a very new team in a lot of ways and tonight we definitely found some flow and moved players into new positions,” Clark said. “The team still has a lot of work to do to find what works, but we are definitely on the right path.”
Kelseyville plays Credo on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the Tyler Duncan Memorial Tournament at Upper Lake.
