KELSEYVILLE >> A bomb threat canceled the day’s classes Friday at Kelseyville High School, but that didn’t stop the Knights’ volleyball program from holding a scheduled fundraiser later that night in the school gym.
Kelseyville’s varsity girls, North Central League I champions and third in the North Coast Section playoffs during the fall sports season, battled the Kelseyville boys, league runner-up during the spring sports season, in an all-for-fun event. While proceeds were originally earmarked for the school’s volleyball programs, all money raised will instead benefit the family of a volleyball team member who recently suffered a tragic loss.
While the varsity girls won all three sets, they did so with varsity boys standout Andon Beall limited to hitting behind the 10-foot line for the safety of the Kelseyville girls. The crowd participated in picking the most valuable players – Beall for the boys and Matisyn Mateer for the girls. Both are seniors who figured heavily in their team’s success this season.
Participating in the fun match were Mateer, AJ Wurm, Riley Hanson, Bella Patti, Madeline Borghesani, Olivia Bushey, Jordyn Wurm and Madison Wurm for the girls, and Beall, Izeah Ely, Diego Rico, George Cline, Miguel Corona, Julio Lopz, Jose Mejia, Manny Hernandez and Kolby Medina for the boys.
In between sets there was a serving contest. Winners received T-shirts.
