MIDDLETOWN >> Snapping an eight-game North Central League I losing streak in style were the Middletown Mustangs, who busted loose for a season-high number of runs Friday afternoon in a 21-4 shellacking of the Upper Lake Cougars in Middletown.

Ally Cherry went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an inside-the-park home run as Middletown improved to 2-11 in league play and 3-12 overall. Ash Thompson (2-for-4), Lilli Reyes (2-for-4) and Allison Pina (2-for-2) also had multiple hits or the Mustangs, who made the most of 13 walks issued by Upper Lake pitching.

Autumn Clark and Taluelah Madrid had Middletown’s other hits.

Statistics were not reported for the Cougars, now 3-8 in league play and 5-9 overall.

Upper Lake hosts undefeated league leader St. Helena on Monday at 4 p.m. Middletown closes out its season Tuesday at home against Clear Lake at 4 p.m.

In other NCL I softball action Friday:

Cloverdale 15, Kelseyville 0

At Cloverdale, sophomore pitcher Camryn Bird, with one perfect game to her credit this season, just missed another one as she no-hit the Kelseyville Knights.

Bird struck out 10 and walked just one – Kelseyville freshman Deez’Alchi Anderson drawing a base on balls. Bird didn’t hit any batters, and the Cloverdale defense committed no errors behind their ace.

Cloverdale (11-1, 16-3) roughed up Kelseyville starting pitcher Madison Byrne for four hits and seven runs (six earned) in 1/3 of an inning. Vanessa Reyes and Taylor Wood made relief appearances during the five inning game.

The Eagles led 7-0 after one inning and 12-0 through two innings.

Ronni Hatcher went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to spark Cloverdale at the plate. Emersyn Reasoner went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Bird went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Lexie Hernandez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Both teams are on the road Tuesday when Kelseyville visits Fort Bragg and Cloverdale travels to Lower Lake.

St. Helena 8, Fort Bragg 0

At St. Helena, the St. Helena Saints shut out the Fort Bragg Timberwolves on Ada Blanton’s four hitter.

St. Helena (12-0, 16-5) needs one more win to clinch no worse than a tie for the league title, which would be the Saints’ fourth straight NCL I championship. They play Monday in Upper Lake before a regular-season-finale showdown Wednesday in Cloverdale.

Justice Penterman went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs against the Timberwolves. Lillian Grimes added a pair of hits, including a double, and knocked in a run.

Fort Bragg (2-11, 3-16) hosts Kelseyville on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Autumn Baxman went 1-for-3 with a double against St. Helena. Nyelli Padilla was the losing pitcher.
