Cody Perez no-hits Lower Lake over final five innings in come-from-behind victory

LOWER LAKE >> Once Cody Perez took over on the mound Wednesday afternoon, it was lights out for the Lower Lake Trojans, who couldn’t touch the Middletown reliever during North Central League I varsity baseball action in Lower Lake.
Middletown bounced back from a 4-1 deficit to win 8-4.
Perez, the third of three Middletown pitchers, shut out Lower Lake (1-10 league, 4-15-1 overall) on no hits during his five innings of work, striking out seven and walking none. He entered the game in the bottom of the third after Lower Lake had scored a run to go up 4-1 and slammed the door.
Middletown (5-7, 8-9) rallied to tie the game with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. The Mustangs pushed ahead 7-4 with a three-run sixth before adding a final run in th seventh.
Cody de Jong went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to spark the Middletown offense. John Finney went 2-for-4 with a RBI while Blake Costlow went 2-for-4. Jon Hawkins (1-for-1) and Madden Sutton also drove in runs for the Mustangs.
Lower Lake statistics were not reported.
Middletown can still reach .500 in league play with wins in its final two games, including a rematch Friday with Lower Lake at Wes Martin Field in Middletown. The Mustangs close out their league schedule Monday at home against Cloverdale at 4 p.m.
