Sonoma Academy claims third straight Coastal Mountain Conference match

WINDSOR >> Sonoma Academy moved into sole possession of first place atop the Coastal Mountain Conference South golf standings Thursday with a 367-397 win over the Middletown Mustangs at the par-72 Windsor Golf Club.

Technology came in third with 401 and St. Helena had 417.

Sonoma Academy has won three straight CMC South matches. The Coyotes are 14-4 to Middletown’s 13-5 going into the final match of the season Monday at Oakmont West in Santa Rosa.

Thursday’s action doubled as the first round of the 36-hole CMC South qualifier that will determine at-large berths into the upcoming North Coast Section playoffs May 11 in Eureka. The final 18 holes of the qualifier are Monday at Oakmont West.

Middletown’s David Sisson and Sonoma Academy’s John Berry tied for medalist honors with rounds of 88, the only golfers to break 90 on the Windsor course. Other low rounds went to Grant McMillian of Middletown and Devon Engebreth of Technology, both with 92, to Lucas Vaio, Keaton Scerri and Chase Stiger of Sonoma Academy, all with 93, and to St. Helena’s Elias Kelperis with 95. Sam O’Halloran of Technology had 99.
