HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE >> The Middletown Mustangs nailed down a third straight Coastal Mountain Conference North tennis championship Tuesday afternoon with a 4-1 win over Fort Bragg in their regular-season finale at the Hidden Valley Lake courts.
Fort Bragg’s lone win came in first singles where Namen Bhatt, among the favorites to win the boys singles championship at the upcoming CMC Championships, turned back Will Hoskins 6-1, 6-0.
“Namen is a great player and seeded No. 3 in the CMC,” Middletown head coach Tony Hart said. “He handled Will. Will was happy to challenge him in some games and enjoyed the challenge.”
Middletown won the other three contested matches in straight sets while also receiving a forfeit victory in second doubles.
Anthony Lopez beat Galvin Wahll 6-1, 6-4 in second singles while Jasiah Pike defeated Theodore Gebheim 6-0, 6-1.
“Anthony finished his season and career with a solid win and the best set he played all year in the first,” Hart said. “Jasiah rolled as well and is playing his best tennis of the year.”
In the only contested doubles match, Siobhan Ryan and Olivia Ruiz won 6-0, 6-1 in first doubles.
Middletown’s Nalu Johnson and Luis Pamatz received the forfeit win in second doubles, finishing the season undefeated.
The Mustangs honored their four seniors in the home season finale. They were Hoskins, Lopez, Ryan and Jasiah Pike.
Middletown went 11-1 in conference play to edge out Mendocino for the title.
The CMC Championships take place Friday and Saturday at Magnolia Park in Rohnert Park with the North Coast Section Championship taking place next week.
