CHICO >> Hayden Xavier set Middletown High School records in the 100 meters and 200 while also setting meet records Friday afternoon at the NorCal Small Schools Invitational in Chico.
Xavier broke his own school records in both events, winning the 100 in 10.72 seconds (old meet record 11.41) and the 200 in 22.15 (old meet record 22.62).
“He had a great meet,” Middletown head coach Wyatt Hall said of the senior. “He had great starts and was able to improve his records and take home some medals.”
Middletown’s Jamisen Jackson finished third in the 100 at 11.40, also beating the previous meet record as did runner-up Jonathan Vazquez Hernandez (11.29) of Pierce.
In the varsity girls division, Middletown’s Crystal Duval, coming off the first 90-foot discus throw of her career a day earlier in a Coastal Mountain Conference meet at St. Helena, achieved a new personal best with a toss of 94-2, which earned her a third-place finish.
“She had another great day,” Hall said.
Middletown’s Sophie Yebra ran third in the 3,200 with a season-best time of 13 minutes, 52.99 seconds.
“Due to a planned trip, this was Yebra’s last meet with us,” Hall said. “She has been a solid distance runner for four years and a steady captain.”
Among other Middletown highlights at the meet were Tyler Galamay’s multiple wins in the boys frosh-soph division.

“Due to entry limits, Tyler Galamay was moved down from varsity,” Hall said.
Galamay dominated in the frosh-soph division, the sophomore winning the 100 (12.02), the 200 (24.81) and anchoring Middletown’s first-place 4×100 team that includes Gavin Elliott, Evan Austin and Hudson Kelley (48.67).
Kelley also placed third in the high jump (5-4).
“Hudson Kelley performed well today,” Hall said.
Middletown’s frosh-soph 4×400 team of Kai Sooy, David Wallace and Zach Norris just missed, placing second in 4 minutes, 9.33 seconds while champion CORE Butte clocked in at 4:09.05.
“Our 4×400 team ran a thrilling race,” Hall said. “Zach Norris anchored the team and nearly completed a 10-meter comeback but fell just one step short. The heart of that JV team could be seen though, and I know they can’t wait to get another chance at the event.”
JV girls
Middletown’s Emma Stark finished fourth in the 300 hurdles (58.19), fifth in the 100 hurdles (19.79) and eighth in the long jump (12-7), all personal-best performances.
“Emma Stark was amazing today,” Hall said.
“While we didn’t win any of the divisions this year, I am happy with how my team performed coming off a meet yesterday (in St. Helena),” Hall said.
Schedule
A handful of Middletown’s track and field athletes take part in a third straight day of competition Saturday when they take part in the Santa Rosa Twilight Invitational. The full team returns to action Wednesday during a conference meet in Lower Lake.
