St. Helena softball team improves to 5-0 in North Central League I action

MIDDLETOWN >> The St. Helena Saints beat Middletown 22-0 in a North Central League I softball game Thursday in Middletown. The contest was called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

St. Helena (5-0 league, 8-5 overall) scored seven times in the top of the first and eight times in the second inning. The Saints added two more runs in the third and five in the fourth.

Saints pitchers Ada Blanton and Maycee Farrell combined on a two-hit shutout. Blanton worked the first three innings for the victory, striking out four and walking none.

Olive Filippini sparked a 14-hit St. Helena attack by going 2-or-5 with a double, home run and four RBIs. Lillian Grimes went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a RBI while Anais Hernandez went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Middletown (1-5, 2-6) statistics were not reported.

Both teams are back in action Friday at 4 p.m. St. Helena hosts Upper Lake while Middletown travels to Lakeport to play Clear Lake.
