Middletown downs Clear Lake 6-1 to improve to 5-1-1 in league play

MIDDLETOWN >> Bryan Sanchez finished with a hat trick while teammates Seth Watson, Alexander Gonzalez and Ren Ueno added single goals as the Middletown Mustangs stayed in the hunt for the North Central League I boys soccer title with a 6-1 victory over the Clear Lake Cardinals on Thursday in Middletown.
Gonzalez and Tony Juarez each contributed two assists in the win while Watson and Jose Delgado also picked up assists.
Middletown improved to 5-1-1 in a tight NCL I race. Fort Bragg (6-0-1) hosts Lower Lake (6-1) next Tuesday in a key game while the Mustangs remain home to play Upper Lake (0-7).
The Mustangs, 7-4-1 on the season, took a 4-0 lead into halftime. Clear Lake’s only goal was an own goal.
“This is the team I’ve had in mind from the start,” Middletown head coach Jason Candelario said. “The team showed their true potential; a lot of great passing, communication, creating dozens of goal opportunities, and a lot of beautiful goals.”
Added Candelario, “The crowd enjoyed the game, and I loved how my team played.”
Middletown’s home game Tuesday with Upper Lake begins at 4:30 p.m. on Bill Foltmer Field.
