UPPER LAKE >> North Central League I leader Fort Bragg beat the Upper Lake Cougars 7-1 in boys soccer action Thursday at Upper Lake High School.

Fort Bragg improved to 6-0-1 with the win while Upper Lake fell to 0-7 in league play and 1-11 overall.

Jaden Nunez scored for Upper Lake with an assist from Mario Olvera.

“Jaden was really aggressive on the offensive side, making great plays and moving the ball around the field well,” Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said. “Mario, who is a sophomore, turned out to be something great for us this year on a team full of first-year players. He’s turned out to be a diamond in the rough. Moving him back to center back has paid off. He’s saved our butts on many occasions.”

Kyler Brothers had 10 saves for the Cougars.

“Although the scores aren’t showing it, we have improved so much this year from our first day of practice to now,” Santana said. “My team has eight sophomores (four of them first-year players) and seven juniors (five first-year players) who are set to return next year. They’ve all bought in to putting in the extra work and continue to improve every day, so this season of hard losses does have a bright side.”

Upper Lake travels to Middletown (5-1-1) on Tuesday while Fort Bragg returns home to take on Lower Lake (6-1) in a first-place showdown.
