CHICO >> Pleasant Valley beat Kelseyville 25-13, 25-11, 25-21 in non-league boys volleyball action Thursday in Chico.
“Pleasant Valley is a great team, definitely one of the best we played this year,” Kelseyville head coach Kc White said of the Vikings, who are the Eastern League leaders in the Northern Section and 16-6 overall. “They serve tough and their offense is sensational, but we played pretty well, especially in the third set.”
Andon Beall had nine digs, four kills and two blocks for the Knights (10-16) while Diego Rico added eight assists, four aces, four digs and two kills.
“I told them to have fun, first and foremost, but to also try to execute the basics (court positioning, getting touches, swinging for kills, etc.),” White said. “For the most part, they executed the game plan pretty well. I really wanted to see us bounce back from a flat match on Monday and they did that, so I’m a happy coach today. This was arguably, collectively, our best hitting day of the season. The guys were swinging loose and free and got a lot of kills.”
Added White, “Our setting (Rico and Julio Lopez) bounced back from Monday and had a great day. We are still struggling in serve receive. If we can find a way to fix that, we will be tough to beat these final two weeks of the season. It was nice to see them smiling and having fun out there.”
Other Kelseyville leaders were Sebastian Cacho with seven digs and two kills, Alex Jimenez with four kills, and George Cline with seven digs.
“I’m really proud of Alex Jimenez today,” White said. “He had some great swings and a bunch of kills. He’s coming along as a weapon for us.”
