Eighth-grade girls basketball team competes in Full Court D event at Redding

REDDING >> The Lake County Diamonds, an eighth-grade girls AAU basketball team, went 2-1 and finished in a three-way tie for first place in the red bracket during the Full Court D tournament Saturday in Redding.
It was the first tournament of the year for the Lady Diamonds, who played top-caliber opponents from Redding, Chico and Cottonwood.
“Our team held its own against stiff competition, carrying over the competitive drive from Mountain Vista’s successful league basketball season,” head coach Shaun Robinson said.
The Diamonds beat the Defenders 25-23 behind 10 points from Jodeci Meadows before losing 42-22 to the Gold Rush. Mezzy Ellis led the Diamonds with nine points.
The Diamonds bounced back from their one loss to defeat the Heat 19-8 as Aubrey Mullen led the way with six points.
In an exhibition game, the Diamonds fell 31-27 to the Tarheels. Kaylee Robinson led the Diamonds with 14 points.
The Diamonds’ roster features, Mullen, Meadows, Robinson, Mezzy Ellis, Amelia Darling, Audrey Panella, Samaya Ellis, Tiana Gleason and Zada Garcia.
