SANTA ROSA >> Even without a full squad in attendance, Middletown High School’s track and field teams did quite well Saturday during the Prospector Gold Rush at Piner High School in Santa Rosa.
“We only took about half our team, but it was a successful meet,” Middletown head coach Wyatt Hall said. “My team got to see some good competition.”
In team scoring, Middletown’s varsity boys placed sixth out of 18 teams, the varsity girls were eighth out of 18 teams, the junior varsity boys were eighth out of 18 teams, and the JV girls tied for seventh out of 14 teams.
Varsity boys
Hayden Xavier won the 100 meters in 10.96 seconds while teammate Jamisen Jackson was seventh in 11.62.
“Hayden Xavier and Jamisen Jackson both had successful days sprinting,” Hall said.
Jackson and Xavier also ran on Middletown’s winning Swedish relay team, which consists of legs of 100 meters (Jackson), 200 meters (Xavier), 300 meters (Ryan Henning) and 400 meters (Henry Ames).
“Ames ran a great leg to hold off the Santa Rosa teams,” Hall said.
Middletown finished in 2 minutes, 8.23 seconds followed by Santa Rosa at 2:08.48.
“Henry Ames and Max Ames were transfers from Calistoga and this was their first meet for Middletown,” Hall said. “Both of them set new personal bests in their individual events and I’m excited to finally have them competing for the team.”
Dylan Caviness beat his personal best by two feet in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 6 sinches to finish third. He is only six inches away from the school record.
“Everything is starting to click or Caviness and it’s amazing to watch,” Hall said.
Varsity girls
Isa Barnes added another medal to her growing collection by winning the 100 hurdles (17.60).
JV girls
Jaqui Nunez won the JV girls shotput with a new personal-best throw of 26-9.
“Nunez is another one of my athletes that I share with another sport (softball), but even without as much practice as I would like, she is progressing nicely in her first year of track,” Hall said.
Schedule
Middletown is off until April 16 when it visits St. Helena for its Coastal Mountain Conference opener.
“We now have some time off to nurse some injuries and work on some technical aspects of our events,” Hall said.
