FORT BRAGG >> Jordyn Parker knocked in four runs while Addison Vipond had three hits and three RBIs in Upper Lake’s come-from-behind 16-8 North Central League I softball win over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves on Friday afternoon in Fort Bragg.
Upper Lake (1-0 league, 5-1 overall) scored three times in the top of the fifth to erase a 6-4 deficit, then put the game away with a nine-run sixth.
“Age and grade-wise, our team is basically a JV team playing varsity games,” Upper Lake head coach Janice Klier said. “We have one senior, one starting junior, two starting sophomores and the rest of my team are freshmen.”
Winning pitcher Bella Stillman went the distance, allowing 10 hits, walking five and striking out one.
Upper Lake collected 14 hits, including three each by Vipond, Ava Witter, who scored three times, and Kyra Santos, who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and scored three times. Parker went 2-for-4 with a double, Kayla Edwards went 2-for-3 with a RBI, and Stillman went 1-for-4 with a double and scored twice.
Upper Lake’s league game Tuesday with Clear Lake has been postponed. The Cougars are scheduled to host Cloverdale on Friday at 4 p.m.
