They win first two matches, drop next three at Cal Expo

SACRAMENTO >> The Never Say Die 15s club volleyball team went 2-3 during tournament action over the weekend at Cal Expo in Sacramento.

The NSD 15s won their first two matches, beating IMUA Felipe 25-16, 26-24 and Aftershock 15 Red 26-24, 25-7. In the final three matches, Manteca Flight David beat NSD 25-9, 25-16, FPVC 15 Ferd defeated NSD 25-18, 22-25, 15-12, and Evolve 15 Red beat NSD 25-22, 25-19.

“The girls did well for their first tourney,” NSD head coach Marci Psalmonds said. “We are still trying to figure out positions and the right mesh that works best on the court. We had some very good rallies, and we saw a lot of great things.”

Added Psalmonds, “Our serve receive was a bit rough, but we will work on it at practice to improve it. This group is very hard working, and I know they are going to catch on quick.

Team members are Addison Schaefers, Gabriella Keyes, Malillany Rico, Nya Martinez, Fiona Wieloch, Kaylee Davis, Kiera Mick, Amiyah John, Paelynn Beall, Quinn Seifert and Lillian Hamel.

Statistical leaders during the tournament were Davis with 25 kills and nine aces, Beall with 23 kills and 11 aces, Hamel with nine kills and nine blocks, John with 13 aces, Rico with 38 assists and Martinez with 24 assists.

The team returns to action Feb. 14-16 in Las Vegas.
