HEALDSBURG >> It didn’t take long for the Clear Lake High School junior varsity girls basketball team to jump back into the win column.

Two days after losing their first game of the season, a 39-37 league setback to Middletown on Tuesday in Lakeport, the Cardinals quickly regrouped, playing a strong second half to beat the host Healdsburg Greyhounds 41-23 in a non-league game that was rescheduled from earlier in the month.

Macie Snyder scored nine points while Hailey Perez and Camara Wittman each had eight to lead a balanced Clear Lake attack. The Cardinals (11-1) outscored the Greyhounds 25-11 in the second half, turning a close game into a comfortable win.

“Our team went back to work tonight after our recent first loss to Middletown,” Clear Lake head coach Tony Farrington said. “For the first half we were off to a slow start and we struggled to get into a groove and move the ball efficiently and not take forced shots. However, during the second half we did a much better job spreading out the floor where we made the Greyhounds defense work harder by moving the ball, making cuts to the basket, and playing unselfishly. This adjustment definitely allowed us to pull ahead tonight and not look back.”

Added Farrington, “Our team greatly appreciates the Healdsburg coaching staff in working with us to reschedule our game so we had a chance to compete and get some much-needed game time.”
