ANDERSON >> Thomas Philpot of the Gladiators Wrestling Club went 4-0 with three pins and one technical fall to win the 100-pound division for fifth- and sixth-graders Sunday at the Jr. NorCal Championships in Anderson.

Also placing first for the Gladiators was Fernando Calvillo, who went 2-0 with two pins, the third straight tournament he’s finished first.

Second-place medals went to Jameson Philpot, who was second in the division for first- and second-graders, and to Cristiano Lopez, who was second for third- and fourth-graders.

Placing third was Kailaya Philpot at 85 pounds. Another third-place medal went to Sebastian James.

Elijah Lopez came in sixth.

“These kids battle every day to strive to be better,” Gladiators coach Hugo Salazar said. “It’s not about the short gain; it is about inspiring the kids to be more than they can believe, then smashing those goals and making new ones. I look forward to working with these kids every day. It is the highlight of my day to be surrounded by young student-athletes who strive to be better.”
