PLEASANT HILL >> Trying to shake off some of that winter break rust, the Lower Lake High School junior varsity girls basketball team took part in the College Park High School Shootout on Saturday, losing to Liberty 33-22 in early action and falling to Oakland Tech 36-30 later that night.
“The girls fought hard against a physical team,” Lower Lake head coach Jessica Lackowski said of the loss to Oakland Tech. “We saw a lot of them step into their roles and find comfort with running our sets.”
Darleen Benefield scored 16 points and Samira Mendez had six.
“That was a great learning opportunity for us heading into the rest of the season,” Lackowski said.
Earlier in the day against Liberty, Lower Lake came up short despite Eden Sparks’ double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Lower Lake is 8-3 overall. The Trojans resume their North Central League I schedule Tuesday at home against Middletown, a game matching two of the top teams in the league.
