ST. HELENA >> Middletown High School’s first-year wrestlers brought home 11 medals, five of them firsts, from the season-opening Coastal Mountain Conference Novice Tournament on Saturday at St. Helena High School.

“We have a full team of first-year high schools, with only five of 28 returning from last year’s team,” Middletown first-year head coach Aaron Sprague said. “I did not expect the outcome that we got, and not just from the win-loss standpoint, but how my team carried their heads high when they lost, and the sportsmanship they showed when they won. I could not be prouder as a coach and I am very grateful for the team that I have for my first year as a head coach.”

Bringing home first-place medals for Middletown were Georgia Emerson, Alivia Stark, Ryan Halverson, Adam Mikel and Dylan Caviness. Second-place medals went to Emma Stark, Trinity Wood, Lupita Cabrera and Jet Berry. Securing third-place medals were Charlie Hill and Kai Sooy.

“They are very hard-working, respectful young men and women, and I look forward to this season and what it will bring,” Sprague said.
