MIRANDA >> Four players scoring in double figures never hurts, and the Clear Lake Cardinals made the most of it Tuesday night to send the South Fork Cubs to a 54-12 loss in non-league varsity girls basketball action at Miranda.
Double-doubles by freshman Amelie Davis (12 points, 10 rebounds) and senior Faith McIntire (11 points, 11 rebounds) powered the Cardinals to their first win of the season. Atiana Patino added 12 points and four steals while Jazmin Wiebusch had 10 points, six rebounds and five steals. McIntire, Wiebusch and Patino each had two 3-pointers.
Clear Lake (1-1) outscored South Fork 21-2 in the second quarter to open up a 29-5 halftime lead. It was 46-7 after three quarters.
Karsyn Greer finished with eight points, including a 3-pointer. Haylie Garcia pulled down eight rebounds.
Davis and McIntire both missed triple-doubles by the margin of one steal as they each had nine.
Clear Lake opens plays in the St. Vincent Tournament on Thursday.
In other girls action Tuesday:
Middletown 45, Willits 35
At Middletown, Middletown benefited from a balanced scoring attack to beat the Willits Wolverines in non-league action. Izzi Hoogendoorn led the Mustangs with 11 points, Jordyn Harbison added nine, Autumn Clark eight, Harley Holley seven and Brenna Goodloe six.
“Very balanced attack overall on offense with multiple players scoring,” Middletown interim head coach Shannon Williams said. “Autumn Clark was a spark on offense and defense, especially with 10 steals. She is so quick, and the first to chase down a loose ball or force a turnover.”
Hoogendoorn, a sophomore, finished with a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds and also leading the team with eight assists.
Holley, a senior, grabbed a team-best 13 rebounds.
“Once again Harley’s toughness shines as she is going up against girls who have her outsized and still she’s able to come down with the ball,” Williams said.
Harbison also filled up the stats sheet with seven rebounds and six steals.
Middletown (3-1) pulled away with a 17-5 third quarter.
In the junior varsity game, Middletown beat Willits 44-19 to improve to 4-0 on the season.
“This was just another great team win for the Lady Mustangs,” Middletown head coach Daryl Dacosta said. “Chloe Pulido stepped up big again for us, leading the way in points. The team is really starting to gel, and you see them getting better and better every game.”
Pulido led the Mustangs with 14 points while Jolene Holley added eight more. Emma Davis and Ally Cherry each had six points.
“We still have some things we need to clean up on the offensive side of the ball, and tighten up some of our defensive rotations, but overall it was good game for the team,” Dacosta said.
Upper Lake 59, Williams 11
At Upper Lake, with only one scrimmage under their belts, the Upper Lake Cougars took the floor Tuesday against Williams in their season opener and beat the Yellowjackets in non-league action
“They were running the court good once they got into the groove,” said assistant coach Fawn Rave, who was filling in for head coach Raelene Cromwell. “Everyone got to touch the court tonight.”
Alyssa John led the Cougars (1-0) with 23 points, including three 3-pointers, while Rylee Zimmerschied added 15 points and Camila Martin eight.
Upper Lake’s JVs won 39-7 behind Kenzie Foley, who scored 12 of her 15 points in the first quarter. Cadence Cordova added 10 points.
“While I have a young team that’s learning, they performed well,” Upper Lake head coach Natalie Karlsson said.
Upper Lake’s varsity plays another non-league game Friday night against Roseland Collegiate Prep in Santa Rosa. The JVs are entered in the Kelseyville Tournament.
