KELSEYVILLE >> The Arcata Tigers spoiled the coming-out party for new Kelseyville High School varsity boys basketball coach Chaze Russell by beating the Knights 80-40 in the season opener for both of these teams Saturday afternoon in Kelseyville.

The new-look Knights (0-1), who graduated almost their entire roster after last season’s 18-12 finish, struggled against Arcata’s pressure defense.

“Arcata is a good team. They put a lot of pressure on us,” Russell said. “It was a reality check for us.”

Nick Arredondo’s 11 points paced the Knights while Jair Inostroza Carrillo added eight more. Jake Amendola and Gordon Astrup finished with seven points apiece. Arredondo hit three 3-pointers and Carrillo had two.

Arcata beat Kelseyville 56-43 in the junior varsity game.

The Knights return to action Tuesday against Alhambra High School in Martinez.
