REDDING >> Clearlake Youth Soccer League’s under-14 and under-16 travel teams won championships this past weekend at the RYSL Wonderland Tournament in Redding.

Both teams went undefeated.

“Their teamwork was exceptional,” CYSL vice-president and team manager Kim Lews said. “They encouraged each other through every match, demonstrated strong communication on the field, and maintained great composure under pressure.”

Added Lewis, “These championships are a testament to their hard work, dedication and the strong coaching and support behind them.”

The under-16 team coached by Ryan and Hailey Seymour dominated the competition, beating the Redding Stingrays 4-1 in its first game, the Redding Impala 5-0 in its second, and the Redding Camaros 5-0 in the final round of bracket play.

Facing the Stingrays again in the championship match, the CYSL squad won by forfeit.

The under-14 team coached by Andres Hernandez and Eric Lopez also scored lopsided victories, including a 7-1 against the Redding Flamengo in its first game and a 5-0 win over Redding Cruz Azul in its second game. A 7-0 win over the Redding Palmeiras put the team in the finals.

CYSL beat the Flamengo again in the finals, 6-0.

“These players gave it everything they had, every game, every minute,” Lewis said. “Their focus, composure and support for one another was incredible to watch. Both teams represented Lake County with heart, grit and sportsmanship, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they together as a team.”
