SONOMA >> Braylen Fanucchi rushed for two touchdowns and returned a fumble for another score Saturday night as the varsity Lower Lake Trojans improved to 7-1 on the season with a 32-0 win over Sonoma during Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League action at Sonoma.

Michael Garner also ran for two scores in the shutout victory. Steven Arson caused one fumble and recovered another, both of which led to Lower Lake touchdowns.

Arson’s forced fumble led to Fanucchi’s fumble return for a touchdown to get Lower Lake on the scoreboard. Sonoma drove all the way to the Lower Lake 2-yard line on its next possession before again fumbling, Arson recovering. The Trojans marched the length of the field before Garner scored on a 2-yard run. Garner scored again on a 1-yard run to make it 18-0 by halftime.

Lower Lake needed only one play to cover the 55 yards to the end zone after receiving the second-half kickoff, Fanucchi breaking loose on a 55-yard run for a 24-0 lead. Fanucchi’s 20-yard run capped the Trojans’ scoring, and the conversion kick made it 32-0, at which point the league’s mercy rule came into effect.

“Our offense and defense both played really well tonight,” Lower Lake head coach Mark Garner said. “They worked really hard all week in practice, and it showed in the results tonight.”

In addition to his forced fumble and fumble recovery, Arson had a sack. Fanucchi had four tackles to go along with his fumble return for a touchdown. Djoser Williams and Richard Occhino Jr. each had a sack.

Sonoma drops to 4-4 in the league standings.

Lower Lake is on the road next Saturday to play Northshore (0-7-1) at 7:30 p.m.
