LOWER LAKE >> Closing out their home season in style, the Lower Lake Trojans beat Napa 12-6 in the varsity division of the Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League on Saturday at Gordon Sadler Field in Lower Lake.

Lower Lake bounced back from a loss to Westshore the previous week to improve to 6-1 on the season.

“It was nice to come away with the win for our last home game of the season,” Lower Lake head coach Mark Garner said. “Our defense played really well all night and kept us in the game.”

Napa returned a Lower Lake fumble for a touchdown and the only points of the first half, taking a 6-0 lead into halftime. The Trojan blocked the conversion kick.

Lower Lake received the second-half kickoff and drove 52 yards for a game-tying touchdown, Braylen Fanucchi capping the possession with a 4-yard run. Napa blocked the conversion kick to keep the score locked at 6-6.

The Trojans pushed ahead to stay on Napa’s next possession as Gavin Cheek intercepted a Bulldogs pass and returned it 68 yards for a touchdown.

Lower Lake’s defense took it from there, shutting down the Bulldogs the rest of the way. Cheek had three tackles to go along with his pick-six return. Michael Garner led the team with nine tackles, Damion Giambra had four tackles and a sack, and Cameryn Ray logged two sacks.

Napa fell to 3-4.

Lower Lake plays its final three regular-season games on the road – at Sonoma (4-3) next Saturday, at Northshore (0-6-1) on Oc.t 18 and at Middletown (4-3) on Oct. 25.
