WILLITS >> That’s 13 wins,10 of them by shutout, for the Kelseyville High School girls soccer team after a 4-0 North Central League I win Tuesday in Willits.

Mikaela Rico scored both of Kelseyville’s first-half goals, the second one coming off an assist from Banesa Munoz.

“Both teams came out strong in the second half, battling hard in a physical and competitive match,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said.

Jacki Chavez gave Kelseyville (4-0 league, 13-1 overall) a 3-0 lead with 26 minutes remaining in the game, assisted by Rico. Nine minutes later the Knights struck again, Kat Wheelan scoring after taking a pass from Xiomara Arias.

“It was a tough and physical game with both teams giving it their all,” Rodriguez said. “The Wolverines played well, but the Lady Knights’ strong defense held firm throughout the match.”

That defense was anchored by defenders Arias, Regina Rico, Arionna Sanderson, Lexxi Pantaleon, Mya Ogo and midfielders Munoz, Wheelan, Kylee Denham, Vanessa Reyes, Ximena Herren and Yuri Montero.

“It was a great all-around performance and an impressive win on the road for Kelseyville,” Rodriguez said.
