SAN FRANCISCO >> There was no wasted effort for the Mendocino College women’s volleyball team Friday as the Eagles swept City College of San Francisco 25-8, 25-8, 25-12 and Skyline College 25-13, 25-15, 27-25 in non-conference action at City College of San Francisco.
“We played really well today with high energy,” Mendocino College head coach Kat Edmonds said. “Everyone contributed.”
Jayden Paulich, a sophomore setter, came up big for the Eagles (3-4) in both matches. Against City College, the former Kelseyville High standout finished with 21 assists, nine digs and five kills and six aces. In the sweep of Skyline, she added another 29 assists, 14 digs, six kills and five aces.
“Jayden Paulich played very well defensively and offensively,” Edmonds said. “She made adjustments we needed her to make, and her stats show that. A great game for her all around.”
Other Eagles leaders against City College were Cali Schnabl (Kelseyville) with nine digs and three aces, Cora Holley (Middletown) with 11 kills and one ace, and Makayla Mace (Middletown) with seven digs, four kills and two aces.
“It was more of an offensive day as we received a lot of free balls, but the attacks we did receive we picked up really well and it was overall clean volleyball on our side,” Edmonds said.
Other leaders in the win over Skyline were Schnabl with 18 digs, Briana Sanchez (Ukiah) with five kills, Emily Gersalia (Clear Lake) with 14 digs and two aces, Mace with 12 kills and Holley with 11 kills.
“Cora and Mac are also contributing big offensively,” Edmonds said. “They were both ripping the ball and getting big hits.”
Mendocino College returns to action next Friday at Solano College against Sacramento City College at 3 p.m. and Santa Rosa Junior College at 5 p.m.
