REDWOOD VALLEY >> Trailing 8-2 early after opening the non-league game with several players trying new positions, the Terrace Vikings reverted to their standard lineup and rallied to beat Eagle Peak 17-8 in middle school softball action Wednesday afternoon in Redwood Valley.
“Started the game with players out of position to create competition,” Terrace head coach Lynn Cruz said. “It didn’t last. We needed to play our game our way. We took over after that and came alive.”
“It was a rocky first two innings,” Terrace assistant coach Shady Cerezo said. “We were down 8-2. Our girls did a great job staying engaged in the game and we just kept chipping away at the lead and finally blew it open in the top of the sixth to put them away for good.”
Winning pitcher Sophia Gonzalez struck out nine and went 3-for-5 at the plate. Amelie Davis (3-for-5, double) and Abby Malley (3-for-4, double) also sparked the offense.
The Vikings take a 17-2 record into the Lake County Junior High Athletic League playoffs that get under way Thursday in Middletown.
