OAKLAND >> Coastal Mountain Conference North tennis champion Middletown dropped a 7-0 decision to Head-Royce of Oakland in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division 2 Team Championships on Tuesday in Oakland.

Teams play four singles and three doubles matches in the team championships. Of the six matches contested Tuesday – three in singles and three in doubles – Middletown lost all of them 6-0, 6-0.

“Will Hoskins was out sick, so we bumped everyone up in singles and had to forfeit fourth singles because we didn’t have enough players,” Middletown head coach Tony Hart said of the loss of his No. 1 singles player.

“There weren’t a lot of highlights,” Hart said. “Dylan Donovan (of Head-Royce) has a national recruiting ranking of 157 and a California recruiting ranking of 32, as a junior,” Hart said.

With Hoskins out, Harrison Brown moved up to No. 1 singles to face Donovan.

Anthony Lopez lost to Jackson Stowell in second singles while Leland Pike fell to Greydon Ting in No. 3 singles.

In doubles action, Nalu Johnson and Luis Pamatz lost in first doubles, Jasiah Pike and Olivia Ruiz fell in second doubles, and Siobhan Ryan and Arianna Sypnicki lost in third doubles.

“We had a great season,” Hart said of the Mustangs defending their CMC North title in 2025. “Everyone is coming back next year and I’m excited to work on their games.”
