FORT BRAGG >> Both teams came into play with undefeated North Central League I records, but it was the Kelseyville Knights who emerged with a hard-fought 6-4 victory in junior varsity baseball action Friday in Fort Bragg.
Kelseyville (5-0 league, 7-1 overall) scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to snap a 4-4 tie.
“We had left bases loaded and at least two runners on in three of the innings,” Kelseyville head coach Sean Navarro said.
Deake Lyndall came through in a big way for the Knights, going 4-for-4 and reaching base in all five of his plate appearances. He also scored four times.
“He had that winning-and-never-give-up attitude,” Navarro said. “There were so many things he did in this game to help us win.”
Reese Johnson worked five innings for the victory while Carson Stone pitched two scoreless innings in relief to notch the save.
“Carson did a great job closing out the game,” Navarro said.
Case Pivniska went 2-for-2 and walked twice in the win.
“Fort Bragg is a very good and well-coached team,” Navarro said. “They were very tough and hit the ball around good. This game could have gone either way.”
