LOWER LAKE >> Goals by Lorena Inong and Genesis Medrano fueled Lower Lake High School’s 2-0 win over Cloverdale in the quarterfinal round of the North Coast Section Division 2 girls soccer playoffs Wednesday night at Gordon Sadler Field in Lower Lake.
Lower Lake and Cloverdale had met twice previously in North Central League I play, each winning 4-2 at home. Lower Lake), the No. 4 seed, now advances to the sectional semifinals Saturday against No. 1 seed Del Norte (8-3-8) at 2 p.m. in Crescent City. If the Trojans upset the top-seeded Warriors, they’ll advance to the Division 2 championship game next Wednesday against either No. 2 Ferndale or No. 3 Credo.
“Our girls played like the team I know they are,” Lower Lake assistant coach Anna Brin said. “They played tough from start to finish. We were down players, had a brand new goalie, and we still came out strong. Our season has been a battle from start to finish, and I’m so proud we won our first playoff game.”
Added Brin, “Our defense was incredibly strong. As always, I’m proud to be their coach.”
In other sectional playoff action Wednesday:
