MARTINEZ >> The Middletown Ice third- and fourth-grade girls basketball club teams both went undefeated this past weekend during the Elite Spring Hoops Challenge in Martinez.

The Ice third-graders, competing in the 9/10-under bronze division, defeated 4 City 3rd 14-7 in their tournament opener. They followed that up with a 12-8 win over NBBA Sonoma, then closed it out with a 30-4 victory against NBBA Marin.

“I’m proud of this entire team and what they did this weekend,” Middletown Ice third-grade coach Cody Smith said. “I have never coached a more unselfish team. They were passing up shots for better opportunities, getting others involved, and playing defense as a team.”

The Ice fourth-graders, participating in the 10-under silver division, opened with a 42-6 win against Bay City 10-under Select, beat Peninsula Gold 41-12, and finished up with a 44-7 win over 707 Premier.

“Coach Nick and I could not be more proud of our girls,” Middletown fourth-grade coach Jason Krauss said. “The girls executed our defense at a high level and continue to grow as a team on the offensive end.”
