WILLITS >> Shaking up their lineup was no big deal for the Middletown High School tennis team, which rolled past the Willits Wolverines 5-0 in Coastal Mountain Conference North action Thursday in Willits.

“I left Will (Hoskins) and Harrison (Brown) home to give some other kids opportunities,” Middletown head coach Tony Hart said of his top two singles players.

Anthony Lopez moved up to No. 1 singles where he beat Salesa Leon 6-4, 6-0 while Leland Pike took over in No. 2 singles where he swept Yamile Vierya 6-0, 6-0.

Jasiah Pike defeated Karina Valazco 6-1, 6-1 in third singles to complete Middletown’s singles sweep.

“Anthony settled himself down and played well in the second (set), avoiding unforced errors while the Pike brothers continue to get better and more confident,” Hart said.

Middletown’s dominant play carried over into doubles where Nalu Johnon and Luis Pamatz beat Jayden Finley and Emilia Owsiany 6-2, 6-2 in first doubles.

In second doubles, Middletown’s Olivia Ruiz and Siobhan Ryan were 6-2, 6-2 winners over Frida Friend and Amasatou Ndoye.

The Mustangs are 6-0 in conference play. They play back-to-back home matches next week – Tuesday against Anderson Valley and Wednesday against Fort Bragg.
