Under-12s win silver bracket championship; under-14s take third place

COTTONWOOD >> The Konocti Bay under-12 and under-14 club volleyball teams hit the court for the first time this season on Saturday during an AAU North State tournament in Cottonwood.
The 12s, coached by Sara Hanson, consists of 13 players between the ages of 9-12, dropped their first two matches before coming back to win four in a row to capture the silver bracket championship.
The 14s, with only four seasoned players and six new club members ranging in age from 10-13, had an up-and-down day, finished 3-3 and placed third in their division. After winning their first match, they dropped their next two. Following a pep talk from coach Becky Knox, they rallied with back-to-back victories to close it out.
Konocti Bay’s teams return to action Feb. 22 in Redding where they will be joined by 24 other teams.
Konocti Bay draws its players from Kelseyville, Lakeport, Upper Lake, Redwood Valley and Potter Valley. The 16-and-under squad coached by Donelle and Maille McCallister travels to Redding on Saturday for its first tournament of the season.
