LOWER LAKE >> Balanced scoring helped carry Upper Lake High School to a 63-45 North Central League I varsity boys basketball win over the Lower Lake Trojans on Friday night in Lower Lake.
“We played hard,” Upper Lake head coach Tony Arroyo said. “It was a fun game and almost everyone scored. We played good defense and attacked the boards good. We played great team ball.”
Jerod Rosales led the way with 12 points and Connor Vogel added a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds as Upper Lake improved to 4-8 in league play and 7-11 overall. Landen Robinson and Wyatt Hallman had nine points apiece, on all 3-pointers, while James Beaux Stiritz had eight points.
“Another tough and disappointing loss for our team,” Lower Lake head coach Tony Farrington said as the Trojans dropped to 0-12 in league and 2-22 overall. “The Cougars scored seven 3-pointers against us, and I believe that this is the most scored against us for the whole year.”
Luke Campbell led the Trojans with 13 points, Noah Hakala added 10 and Brody Shields had seven.
“Unfortunately, we struggled to run our offense, grab boards, keep our hands up on defense, and close out on perimeter shots,” Farrington said. “At this stage in the season, I know that while our players see the improvement in their overall game, they are mentally worn down with no recent wins, and that has taken a toll and was evident tonight.”
Upper Lake hosts Middletown on Tuesday while Lower Lake hosts Clear Lake.
JV game
Upper Lake won a hard-fought junior varsity game 60-51, half of the Cougars’ points coming from one player as TJ Malicay scored 30. Shaun Way added 12 more and Antario Wyman had seven.
“It was a good win,” Upper Lake head coach Lupeli Faleagafulu said. “We got into a good rhythm on offense early and that’s what kept us ahead throughout the game. Lower Lake battled back, and it was an intense, exciting game, but our defense in the end helped get us the win.”
Added Faleagaful, “TJ was big for us offensively and defensively. He is a smart player, and I was glad to see him get a big game.”
Lower Lake (0-12) scoring was not reported.
