CORNING >> All eight members of the Gladiators Wrestling Club who attended the Queen of the North tournament Saturday in Corning didn’t come away empty-handed.
Four of those eight – Kaitlyn Crow, Nevaeh Barocio, Laylony Barocio and Kailaya Philpot – all finished first in their respective weight classes to earn championship tiaras.
Crow not only won the 70-pound weight class but was voted the tournament’s outstanding wrestler for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders. She went 5-0 with two pins and a technical fall.
Nevaeh Barocio went 4-0 with three pins at 95 pounds while Laylony Barocio went 3-0 with three pins in the middle school division.
Philpot also went 3-0 with three pins in the middle school 112-pound weight class.
Second-place medals went to Lilly Oakes and Brodie McDaniel, both 3-1. Finishing third were Kylie Dugger, who went 3-2, and Alley Oakes, who went 1-2.
The Gladiators finished second as a team behind tournament host Corning, but they were first in pins (17).
