ANDERSON >> Alex Jimenez scored his third goal in two games, helping the Kelseyville Knights tie the Anderson Cubs 1-1 in a non-league varsity boys soccer game Wednesday night in Anderson.

Trailing 1-0 since the 25th minute of the first half, the Knights (0-2-2) finally found the scoreboard with five minutes left in the game.

“We had multiple opportunities throughout the game to score, but couldn’t find the net,” Kelseyville head coach KC White said. “All the credit to the Anderson keeper. He was really good tonight. We finally broke through with about five minutes left. Diego Rico had a corner, one of eight for us on the night, the ball bounced around and Alex Jimenez, Johnny-on-the-spot this season, found the net for the equalizer.”

Kelseyville threatened to break the tie in the closing minutes but turned back each time by the Anderson defense.

“We started strong today, and we were the better team throughout,” White said.

“I really thought Tony Rivas, our captain, had his best game of the young season,” White added. “I love how dependable he is anchoring our defense. I also think the play of the freshmen on the team, Jake Smart and Jorge Gonzalez, has inspired some healthy competition among the team.

“I have mentioned to my team that I love their commitment this season. Everyone is 100-percent invested in improving, and it’s showing in our effort and will to win.”

Kelseyville plays Urban on Saturday at 3 p.m. in San Francisco. The match takes place at the Beach Chalet fields in Golden Gate Park.
