MIDDLETOWN >> Trailing 22-6 at halftime, the Middletown Colts power puff football team rallied to beat the Kelseyville Chiefs powder puff team 28-22 on Sunday evening at Bill Foltmer Field in Middletown.
Each team showed off its athleticism during the flag football-format game. Both teams had “boy-leaders” cheering for them on the sidelines. Football players for the Colts and Chiefs during the 2024 season took the field at halftime to entertain the crowd with dance and stunt routines.
Naveah Wienke was honored as the Colts’ MVP after leading the team in rushing yards, and Brodie McDaniel, only a sixth-grader, who was drafted up to play in the varsity game, was honored as Middletown’s defensive player with the most flags captured.
“I am truly proud of you girls, your hard work and determination went unmatched,” Middletown head coach Tommy Lopez said to his players following the game. “Going into the second half we were down 22-6 and didn’t let that discourage you. We couldn’t have secured this win without the help from the boys cheering us to victory. After watching the halftime performance and hearing you all encourage them to not give up, the girls went back out there and played to win.”
The inaugural Colts vs. Chiefs power puff game is meant to become an annual event and is dual fundraiser between the two teams.
