Girls win by one point while boys cruise to easy victory

ASTI >> Middletown High School’s cross country teams concluded a strong North Central League regular season with meet victories Wednesday afternoon on the 3-mile Treasury Wine Estate course in Asti.
Middletown’s girls edged St. Helena 37-38 followed by host Cloverdale with 70 points and Kelseyville with 87. All other teams were incomplete (fewer than five runners).
Decked out in a Supergirl outfit with Halloween just a day away, St. Helena’s Corinna Schlatter won the race in 19 minutes, 32 seconds, just four seconds off the 19:28 course record set by Sonoma Academy’s Katy Lee in 2011. Schlatter was the only runner to finish in less than 20 minutes.
Cloverdale runners Liz Silva (20:40) and Malia McGrath (22:05) were next across the finish line and were followed by St. Helena’s Tilly Dodd (22:26) and Middletown’s Nala Montgomery (23:31).
A wave of Mustangs, led by Montgomery, propelled Middletown to the one-point team win. Bailey Smith finished sixth (23:42), Cat Barriga was seventh (23:50), Jennifer Jimenez came in ninth (25:41) and Nayeli Negrete was 10th (27:43). St. Helena’s Loma Henry finished eighth in 25:31.
Laney Fossa led Kelseyville with an 11th-place finish at 27:49.
Varsity boys
Middletown posted another easy team win in the varsity boys division with 23 points to Willits’ 53. Other scoring teams were St. Helena with 75 points, Fort Bragg with 79 and Lower Lake with 136.
Cole Lane of Willits (18:19) and Gael Lopez of Cloverdale (18:29) finished one-two, with Middletown’s Quinn Murray (18:56) and Ren Ueno (19:14) third and fourth, respectively. Darli Suarez of Willits (19:25) rounded out the top five.
Other top-10 finishers included Kelseyville’s Jacob Parker (19:34) and Joshua Fossa (19:36), Cloverdale’s Bryan Garcia (19:38), and Middletown’s Isael Haro (19:42) and Bryan Sanchez (19:58).
Eleventh place went to Middletown’s Landon Pisaro (20:08) while teammate Logan Ramos (20:38) came in 15th.

NCL I runners are off until Nov. 13 when the Coastal Mountain Conference Championships take place at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa. Race times are 1:30 p.m. (junior varsity boys), 2:15 p.m. (girls) and 3 p.m. (varsity boys).
