Cardinals to meet Lower Lake in championship game Saturday at Upper Lake High School

SONOMA >> No. 1 seed Westshore punched its ticket to the Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League pee wee championship game with a 7-0 victory over Fort Bragg during a semifinal-round playoff game at Sonoma.
The Cardinals (9-0) go up against Lower Lake (8-1) this coming Saturday at Upper Lake High School with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. Lower Lake, the No. 2 seed, beat No. 3 Willits 19-6 in the other semifinal at Cloverdale High School.
“It was definitely an exciting win,” Westshore head coach Vince Rave said. “It was a tough battle, but our boys pulled through and fought hard to get the win.”
Running back Vincent Rave scored the game’s only touchdown while rushing for 109 yards. Chance Poland ran in the conversion. Rave also anchored the defense with six total tackles and a forced fumble. Poland added five tackles, an interception and a pass defended. Adrian Wright and Tanner Black had five tackles each. Black also recovered a fumble.
“It was another defensive game,” Rave said. “Westshore played fast and aggressive football. We’re excited for the championship. These boys worked hard to get there.”
Added Rave, “Our whole defense stepped up and did their job,”
