Cross country team hosts meet at Six Sigma Ranch and Winery course

LOWER LAKE >> Middletown High School honored its seniors – 11 of them in all – during its one and only home meet of the 2024 cross country season on Wednesday afternoon on the 5-kilometer-long Six Sigma Ranch and Winery course near Lower Lake.
Middletown’s seniors are Caterina Barriga, Jennifer Jimenez and Krystal Ocken among the girls and Aiden Cadwallader, Richard Ramos, Caden Gotz, Zacai Chavez, Ryan Sanchez, Isaac Lozada, Marlin Martin Del Campo and Quinn Murray among the boys.
Both Middletown teams also had a big day on the course – the boys and girls both dominating the other North Central League I teams. In the boys field, Middletown finished with 32 points, Kelseyville was the next closest with 71, Willits came in third with 77, St. Helena had 85, Fort Bragg 94 and Lower Lake 167. In the girls field where only three teams were complete (minimum of five runners), Middletown edged out St. Helena 32-37 while Kelseyville was third with 58.
Boys
Cole Lane of Willits (18 minutes, 8 seconds) won by a comfortable 37-second margin over Middletown’s Murray (18:45) while Middletown’s Ren Ueno (18:51) and Cloverdale’s Gael Lopez (18:56) also cracked 19 minutes. Charles Watson of St. Helena rounded out the top five at 19:17, followed closely by Bryan Garcia Ramirez of Cloverdale (19:19), Joshua Fossa of Kelseyville (19:21), Isael Haro of Middletown (19:23), and Jacob Parker of Kelseyville (19:28). Chris Island of Fort Bragg was 10th in 19:44.
Other top finishers included Middletown’s Logan Ramos (19:55) and Sanchez (20:22), the 12th– and 13th-place runners; Salvador Ramirez of Kelseyville, 14th in 20:04: Landon Pisaro of Middletown, 15th in 20:21; and Gotz and Lozada of Middletown, 15th and 16th in 20:36 and 20:42, respectively.
Girls
Corinna Schlatter of St. Helena once again ran away from the girls field with a winning time of 19:08, well ahead of runner-up Elizabeth Silva of Cloverdale at 20:53. Tilly Dodd of St. Helena was third in 21:48 while Malia McGrath of Cloverdale came in fourth in 22:16. Middletown’s Bailey Smith (22:59) rounded out the top five.
After Smith crossed the finish line, each of the next six finishers were Lake County runners – the Middletown trio of Barriga (24:23), Nala Montgomery (24:24) and Jimenez (24:51) followed by the Kelseyville trio of Aylin Aguilar (24:52), Lorena Pantaleon (25:51) and Laney Fossa (26:26).
Nayeli Negrete Peralos of Middletown finished 14th in 27:49 while Ingrid Tena of Kelseyville was 17th in 29:47.
Schedule
The final league meet of the 2024 season is next Wednesday at the Asti course near Cloverdale.
