Trojans make noise early in 15-5 North Central League I loss to St. Helena

LOWER LAKE >> Asthon Hartmann smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to cut St. Helena’s lead to 6-3, but the visiting Saints went on to beat the Lower Lake Trojans 15-5 in North Central League I varsity baseball action Thursday in Lower Lake.
Lower Lake (1-6 league, 4-11-1 overall) plays at St. Helena (8-1, 12-6) on Friday at 4 p.m.
After a scoreless first inning, St. Helena scored three times in the top of the second and three more times in the third to go up 6-0. Hartmann’s blast to left field in the bottom of the third halved that deficit.
St. Helena put the game away with a six-run fourth. Lower Lake got its final two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Lower Lake starting pitcher Brody Shields took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in three innings. He struck out two and walked one. St. Helena starter Huck Anderson worked six innings for the victory, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits. He struck out five and walked five.
Charlie Blaum went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs for the Saints, and Adam Herdell went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Anderson and Julian Earls (doubles) added two hits apiece.
St. Helena’s junior varsity squad beat Lower Lake’s JVs 10-0.
