Eagles sweep Yuba College in Bay Valley Conference volleyball action

MARYSVILLE >> Mendocino College dominated Yuba College in Bay Valley Conference women’s volleyball action Wednesday night in Marysville, led by former Clear Lake High School star Stella Hill.

Hill finished with 14 kills, 15 digs and three aces in Mendocino College’s 25-17, 25-13, 25-9 victory, a win that squares the Eagles’ conference record at 1-1.

Montana Wells (Clear Lake) contributed six kills, six aces and three blocks in the win while Breanna Pyzer (Middletown) added 16 digs, two aces and one assist.

“We played really well tonight,” Mendocino College head coach Kat Edmonds said as the Eagles improved to 7-16 on the season. “One of our goals since our last game was to play our game set the standard and pace of the game, and that’s exactly what they did tonight, and I’m proud.”

On Hill’s solid performance, Edmonds said, “Stella had a spectacular night. Her hitting was great, her defense and serve receive were solid and her serving was aggressively placed.”

Setter Jayden Paulich (Kelseyville) led the Eagles with 33 assists while also adding three kills and one ace.

It was the first of five straight BVC road matches for the Eagles, who play Los Medanos on Friday in Pittsburg at 6 p.m. Mendocino College doesn’t return home until Friday, Nov. 1 against Yuba College.
