Cougars nail down first win of season, defeat Geyserville
UPPER LAKE >> The Upper Lake Cougars scored the first two goals of the game and the last two while posting their first win of the season, a 4-2 non-league victory over visiting Geyserville on Tuesday during non-league boys soccer action in Upper Lake.
Upper Lake (1-4) staked itself to a 2-0 halftime lead before Geyserville rallied to tie the score in the second half. Kyler Brothers then scored to put the Cougars ahead to stay. Brothers assisted on a Jaden Nunez goal, his second of the game, to give Upper Lake a bit of insurance at 4-2.
Nunez and Gavin Dooley goals put Upper Lake in front in the first half. Adam Moran assisted on Brothers’ go-ahead goal in the second half.
“We played great,” Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said. “It felt good to get one in the win column.”
Brothers opened the game at keeper before giving way Wyatt Hallman to open the second half. Brothers then returned to keeper for the final 10 minutes of the game. He finished with four saves as did Wyman.
“We moved the ball pretty well and pressured them, keeping Geyserville on defense most of the first half,” Santana said. “We had lots of shots on goal but struggled to finish them. We played great.”
Upper Lake returns to action Tuesday in Rohnert Park against Technology at 5 p.m.
