MIDDLETOWN >> Goodbye old gym, hello new gym.
The Middletown Middle School A and B volleyball teams broke in a new gym with a pair of wins Wednesday against Terrace School of Lakeport. A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place prior to the Middletown B team’s 25-18, 25-10 win, giving B-team members the distinction of being the first Middletown athletes to win an athletic competition in their new building.
Later that evening, Middletown’s A team topped off a festive day for the Broncos with a 26-24, 25-19 win. Both the A team (7-2) and B team (9-0) are headed to next week’s postseason tournament following their regular-season finale against Mountain Vista on Monday in Kelseyville.
“It was a total team victory and I am beyond proud of these girls,” Middletown head coach Niki Emberson said. “What a way to break in our new court.”
Mia Martin recorded 21 digs in the win, and she also had two aces. Lily Day finished with six aces and four kills, and Stella Brand had nine assists, two kills and one ace.
In the B team’s win, Madison Lewis served up 11 aces while Abby Tribby had five aces and three kills. Lola Fults added five assists and two aces.
“Our B team felt all the feelings tonight and battled their nerves of playing in a new, unfamiliar space in front of a very large crowd,” Emberson said. “I am happy to report that they quickly regained their composure and beat Terrace in two sets, making history as the first team to win in our brand new gym.”
After Middletown wraps up league and regular-season play Monday against Mountain Vista, the B team opens play in the league tournament Wednesday in Upper Lake while the A team returns to action Thursday in Upper Lake. Winners on Wednesday and Thursday advance to final-round play Saturday in Upper Lake.

Upper Lake def. Mountain Vista
At Upper Lake, Upper Lake beat Mountain Vista 25-23, 25-23 on eighth-grader night as the Wildcats honored their eighth-grade players during the final home match of the regular season.
Adriana Herrera Cook led Upper Lake with six kills and Melissa Murphy had four aces.
“It was eighth-grade night for Kaleah Allison and Kylee Foley and the girls came out ready to play,” Upper Lake head coach Darrin Brown said. “It was back and forth each match, both teams going blow for blow. It could have gone either way.”
Added Brown, “We wanted it more tonight. Mountain Vista is a great team, but we proved tonight that we can hang with them. I knew we could, but now thy know they can.”
