MIDDLETOWN >> Middletown Middle School’s A team beat Upper Lake Middle School 18-25, 25-22, 15-13 in volleyball action Wednesday evening in Middletown, leaving both teams at 5-2 in the league standings.

“We tried switching up a few positions in the first set and it did not work out well for us, so we adjusted back to our original positions,” Middletown head coach Niki Emberson said. “I am so proud that the girls were able to reset and rally back to win the next two games.”

“Every set was super competitive tonight,” Upper Lake head coach Darrin Brown said. “We played great volleyball tonight, just sometimes the ball doesn’t land in your favor. Both teams left it all out on the floor.”

The play of libero Mia Martin and her 14 digs “was the glue that held us together and kept us in the long rallies,” Emberson said.

Stella Brand had 14 assists for the Broncos, Camila Galvan added three kills and an ace, Lily Day finished with five kills and three aces, and Alexis Theodorou contributed eight digs, four kills and an ace.

“I am so proud of these girls,” Emberson said. “They have proven that they can battle back when they all behind. We still have work to do, but working with this group has been so much fun this season.”

For Upper Lake, Kaleah Allison led the way with five kills, Cali Munoz had four kills, and Azalia Munoz served up seven aces.

Both teams are entered in the Spikefest hosted by Upper Lake on Friday and Saturday.

“We are looking forward to competing,” Emberson said.

“These girls are on a roll!” Emberson said. “They are the most positive group of girls I have ever worked with, and we are all having so much fun.”
