KELSEYVILLE >> How often does a libero get a kill? Not very often, but it happened Thursday night, and on match point no less.
Grace Peterson of the Kelseyville High School varsity volleyball team put the finishing touches on a 25-7, 25-15, 25-4 win over the Willits Wolverines in North Central League I North action at Kelseyville. Brooklyn Young set the ball for Peterson with a 24-4 lead in the third set and Peterson put it away as the Knights improved to a North-best 4-0.
“Wee usually do not set our libero for a back row attack,” Kelseyville head coach Donelle McCallister said. “On match point there was a beautiful connection from setter Brooklyn Young, and libero Grace Peterson buried one in the corner. It was a great swing.”
Kelseyville had little trouble with the ultra-young Wolverines (0-4), who start no seniors and only one junior.
“The rest are sophomores,” McCallister said. “They are just learning.”
Kelseyville also starts no seniors. In fact, there are no seniors on the Knights’ roster this season. Riley Hanson led the team with 17 assists and six aces. Other leaders were Madi Byrne with 12 digs and Olivia Bushey with eight kills.
Kelseyville’s junior varsity team also improved to 4-0 in league play with a 25-10, 25-4 win. Nya Martinez led the way with eight kills while Olivia Arredondo had five kills and eight aces, and Gabby Keyes contributed four digs.
The Knights close out the first half of their league schedule Tuesday night in Upper Lake. JV action starts at 5 p.m.

“I had to mix some things up (with Sperber out), and that gave Alyssa John another night of setting with some help from Kenzie Foley in the first and second sets,” Upper Lake head coach Fawn Rave said. “In the third set Alyssa set all the way around, and she did a pretty good job getting the ball out to her team.”
Aubree Sperber finished with 10 service points, seven of them aces, to go along with three kills and a dig, and Marina Quiett added 11 service points, including five aces, four kills and three digs.
